Breakthrough Research: Dr. Ruva & Jury Bias

Dr. Christine Ruva studies the effects of exposure to pretrial publicity on juror decision making. “What my research has found is that jurors who are exposed to anti-defendant, pro-prosecution pretrial publicity — or PTP — are much more likely to find the defendant guilty than jurors not exposed to PTP. These PTP-exposed jurors also are angrier, view the defendant as less credible and are more likely to believe that information found only in the PTP was presented at trial.” (Herald Tribune, August 2017)
