SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2015) – It can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. An opportunity to expand horizons. Enriching while also academically challenging.
USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Study Abroad Program offers students a chance to pursue their academic goals while also delving into another culture.
Some students report a changed outlook on life. Others compare the experience to an adventure – living not as a tourist or outsider, but as a seasoned ex-pat.
“After the first few days, I was already acting like a local,” USFSM Emily Herman said of her study-abroad experience this past summer at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. “So much so that tourists actually stopped and asked me for directions! It was insanely gratifying to know that I knew enough about this place to actually give directions to someone who was as lost as I was a few days earlier.”
USFSM students can learn more about numerous study-abroad options during a “Study Abroad Fair” scheduled 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in the rotunda.
Representatives from USFSM’s Global Engagement Office and the USF World Education Abroad Office will be available to answer questions about application requirements, travel and living costs, places for study, as well as scholarship opportunities, including the Clyde B. Nixon International Business Endowment.
Students aiming to study abroad must have at least sophomore standing their first semester away. Graduating seniors cannot study abroad in their last semester. Students must be 18 or older to participate.
Programs are available to both graduate and undergraduate students and can vary from week-long trips to long-term stays during the fall, spring or summer semesters.
Summer programs can run from 2 to 10 weeks while semester-long programs offer students the fullest opportunity to engage with other cultures. In most cases, the study options abroad are as varied and expansive as those at USF.
