Research @USFSM: Culturally Responsive Teaching

Posted: August 04, 2017

Research @USFSM: Dr. Byrd from the School of Education (College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences) shares her research on the importance of having cultural, social and economic diverse societies in the classroom.

“Culturally competent teachers embrace student differences. Long gone is the idea of a classroom being likened to a melting pot where student differences are molded into one. Rather, a classroom with an effective culturally competent teacher is similar to a salad bowl where each item is placed into the salad for its unique, individual flavor” (Herald Tribune, 2017).
