Recruiting with USF Sarasota-Manatee

A successful business partnership is the result of building relationships with the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus community. In addition to advertising jobs and internship opportunities at your organization, you can partner with Career Services on a variety of programs and events designed to promote the employer to USF Sarasota-Manatee students and alumni.

We seek to partner with employers who adhere to the Principles for Professional Practice, as defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Employer Recruitment Policies

USF Sarasota-Manatee is dedicated to providing career opportunities related to the degree programs offered and that will build experiences to help students land their first job or advance within their field. We partner with employers who comply with all state and federal laws and regulations, University policy, as well as the NACE’s Principles for Professional Practice for Employment Professionals.  Failure to do so will result in immediate suspension of on campus recruitment activities, including removal of any active job postings within Handshake.

Additionally, the Career Services has developed the following policies to ensure that USF Sarasota-Manatee students and alumni are treated fairly and are being recruited for viable positions. Career Services reserves the right to deny recruiting privileges (job postings, resume reviews, on campus interviewing, career fairs, etc.) to any organization.  Accounts in Handshake that are inactive for 2 years, will be deleted.

Employers Who Post Jobs With Us Must Have:

  • A verifiable business address, not a residential address nor a P. O. Box
  • A legitimate website
  • A business email domain, not a personal e-mail domain
  • A direct line phone number, not a generic (800) number

Types of Jobs That Can Be Posted:

  • Only job vacancies can be advertised from direct hiring employers.
  • Part-time, on- or off-campus positions
  • Paid or unpaid internships –Unpaid positions must be specified in the description and must comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act. See Fact Sheet 71: https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs71.htm
  • Full-time positions
  • Temporary and short-term positions
  • Non-direct hiring employers (defined as third-party recruiters) may have access to post jobs only as long as they the fee is paid by the client/employer and not the student. The client/company name must be listed in the job description or shared with Career Services staff.

Types of Jobs that Can NOT Be Posted:

  • Babysitting, yardwork, or other in-home employment
  • Website service providers to market the services of independent contractors
  • Door-to-door sales positions
  • Commission-only employment
  • Pyramid or multi-level opportunities
  • Positions requiring fees for training, subscription or purchase of product or services.
  • Job opportunities outside the US
  • Unpaid internships that are not in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Tips to Attract Applicants

USF Sarasota-Manatee students seek career-related, skill building positions.  A job description that defines the knowledge, skills, and experience required to qualify for the position. Use clear and concise language.  Other things students consider when reviewing a job lead are: a salary range or starting wage, training opportunities, tuition reimbursement, career pathways and benefits.

Please post all jobs and internships in Handshake. Our staff will then ensure that these opportunities are advertised to our student and alumni populations.

Third-party recruiters must complete the Third-Party Employer Agreement.
