Program Overview

This program is aimed at traditional first time in college students. In partnership with the College of Engineering at USF in Tampa, students are now able to enroll in pre-engineering courses at USF Sarasota-Manatee. A pre-engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from USFSM offers students the option to prepare for engineering careers where they already live and work. This program gives students convenient access to USF’s world-class engineering programs, with a 2-plus-2 college course plan.

Students in the program will take requisite undergraduate courses at USFSM for the first two years, which align with USF’s Mechanical Engineering program in Tampa. Once students complete these courses, students will be eligible to continue their studies at USF’s College of Engineering in Tampa. This program is part of USFSM’s growing emphasis on expanding science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs to meet the evolving workforce needs of local and regional communities.

Mechanical Engineering is a new and fast-growing academic discipline at USF Sarasota-Manatee. Students in this program study requisite courses at USFSM for the first two years and complete the second two years through the College of Engineering at USF in Tampa.
